This Month’s LEAP Recap: Creating Landing Pages That Convert
This month’s LEAP Roundtable was about how to create website landing pages that convert. Hosted by Shannon Parris and social media manager Duda Rubbo, the session covered the distinction between landing pages and regular webpages, shared key elements of effective landing pages, and touched on common landing page mistakes.
Whether you attended or not, here are the key takeaways to create landing pages that convert visitors into customers:
1. Compelling Headline
The headline is the first thing visitors see, so it should be clear, concise, and value-driven. It needs to grab attention and communicate the core benefit of what you're offering.
2. Cohesive Visuals
Images, videos, and colors should enhance the overall message of the page. Consistent and professional visuals help build trust and make your page visually appealing, keeping visitors engaged.
3. Persuasive Copywriting
The copy on your landing page should focus on the benefits of your offer, addressing any potential objections or pain points. It’s all about showing the visitor how your solution solves their problem.
4. Strategic CTA Placement
Your call-to-action (CTA) buttons should be clear, strong, and action-oriented, with multiple CTA buttons placed throughout the page for easy access. Make sure they stand out visually and guide visitors toward taking the desired action.
5. Forms and Lead Capture
Forms should only ask for the most necessary information—typically no more than 3-4 fields. Overly long forms can be intimidating and may cause visitors to abandon the page.
6. Trust Signals
Testimonials, security badges, and social proof, such as customer reviews or logos of reputable brands you've worked with, help reassure visitors that they can trust you, making them more likely to convert.
7. Common Mistakes
Even the best landing pages can suffer from common mistakes. Here are a few issues to watch out for and how to fix them:
Slow Load Speeds: If your page loads too slowly, visitors may leave before they even see your offer. Optimize images and minimize unnecessary plugins to speed things up.
Confusing Navigation: Keep the navigation simple or eliminate it entirely to reduce distractions and keep the focus on your conversion goal.
Not Mobile-Optimized: More visitors are accessing websites on mobile devices than ever before. Ensure your page uses responsive design to provide a seamless experience on all screen sizes.
Unclear Value Proposition: If your headline or messaging doesn’t clearly explain what you're offering and why it’s valuable, you risk losing potential leads. Lead with a customer-focused headline that highlights the main benefit of your product or service.
By crafting a focused, well-designed landing page, you can create a powerful tool that turns visitors into leads, sales, or subscribers—moving them one step closer to becoming loyal customers.
